Gunner Møller Pedersen: A sound year

(Electronic quadrophonic sound work in twelve movements – one movement for each month. The current month's movement is played every day in the park at 12 and 3 pm)

"ET LYDÅR", is considered the main work among Gunner Møller Pedersen's compositions. It took five years to complete the work, which in twelve movements – each lasting 30 minutes – describes the course of the year in sound.

The electroacoustic work of sounds is spatial music that is experienced as an extension of nature's own musicality. The birds sing in the chorus, the frost adds its tinkling voice, just as the wind gives its voice when the movements are played. Nature thus plays an active part in the music, contrary to what skeptics might have thought.

Gunner Møller Pedersen describes it like this: "The music of the month is an organic, spatial sound world that plays together with and expands the experience of nature and the place. It is both a physical and mental experience, which sharpens the senses for both sound and visuals".

In connection with A YEAR OF SOUND, the artist Alfio Bonanno erected the work, Lyttekreds, which frames the place where the sound from the four arrayed loudspeakers hits optimally.

The collaboration between Gunner Møller Pedersen and Alfio Bonanno started many years ago. The first time was in 1985 at a large live exhibition "A Sound Year" at the Fundacio Joan Miró in Barcelona. Here, Alfio Bonanno created an exhibition in constant change over a whole month, a pictorial review of a year's progress, in visual dialogue with Gunner Møller Pedersen's electroacoustic music.

Later, the two artists made several visual concerts: Alfio Bonanno created pictures and sculptures, while Gunner Møller Pedersen's music filled the room. Both of them call the collaboration an extremely successful symbiosis, which has now had its permanent continuation in TICKON.
