(The work is set up in connection with events on the banks of the castle lake. The experience of the buzzing insects around the blue-luminous large butterfly is best after sunset, when the park is normally closed).
On a mild August evening in the summer of 2019, a large stylized butterfly of the Common Bluebird species was inaugurated – created in metal and mesh and installed with bluish LED light.
The modified drawing of the work was by the American artist and biologist, Brandon Ballengée, but the execution was left in local hands, as Ballengée could not bring his work by plane for practical reasons.
For a week, the Blue Bird stood shining on the shore of the castle lake and attracted poisonous insects, which Ballengée and his family subsequently gave a lecture about.
The week was also marked with workshops for children who created fantasy caterpillars from natural materials or painted insects that became flying kites.
When the butterfly, Love Motel for Insects, is lit again on the shores of Tranekær Slotssø, the event will be announced on posters, in newsletters to TICKON's Friends and in the daily press.
