Brother Westman: Bone Blanket

(no longer exists)

On the gloomy gallows hill that abuts the castle park, the artist Bror Westman placed his bone rug of animal bones tied together with piano strings and suspended in the shape of a bird's wing from a maple tree.

However, the slightly macabre Tværs was constructed based on thoughts other than the creepy. Quite the contrary, for Brother Westman's specialty is sound sculptures, aeolian harps and home-made musical instruments, because he perceives these types of wind harps as a dialogue with nature. Sometimes a soft loving talk, created by a quiet wind, other times wild discussions, when the wind roars through the forest and makes the wind harp give its voice.

The bone rug was intended as a collection of animal bones from the surrounding area. But as so often, reality beats the ideas. There simply weren't enough animal bones to find for the school classes that were tasked with the task. The solution was carcasses, which first had to be boiled to become pale white and clean and odorless.

Brother Westman was born in Denmark, 1943. Trained anthropologist with a specialty in musical instruments and women's art. Also trained as a sculptor and for 15 years was employed for research and communication at the School of Architecture.
